Get Involved

There are many ways to get involved at Theatre 62 – from acting to making costumes, from directing to serving interval refreshments, from designing the set, sound and lighting to serving behind the bar; from maintaining the building to working backstage. The list goes on.

Acting

Do you enjoy theatre? Have you ever thought of treading the boards? Theatre 62 is always looking for new actors to swell the ranks. We’re keen for actors of all ages and levels of experience.

Sounds interesting?  Why not come along to one of our auditions? Should you be successful, you would be required to attend rehearsals (normally twice weekly, sometimes three times a week) for a couple of months or so prior to the production. The rehearsals are good fun and a chance to learn from other cast members.

You would be fully supported by the director, stage manager and all the backstage crew. We normally have six performances, Monday to Saturday nights, occasionally with a Saturday matinee.

Why not give it a go? We publish dates of forthcoming auditions here, with details of each character required. Scripts can be borrowed from the theatre to read through beforehand.

Backstage crew

Behind every good production is a small army of backstage crew keeping things running smoothly. The crew includes set design and building, wardrobe, props, hair and make up.  Being involved backstage is a great way to get involved if you don’t wish to act, or just wish to take a break from acting.

Support will be given, or you can let your artistic flare roam free, perhaps making/altering/choosing costumes, dressing hair or wigs and transforming the actors through the use of cosmetics. You could be seeking out a Victorian footstool, a pair of Regency shoes or creating a scar. Perhaps you could be painting the set, hanging wallpaper, building furniture or dressing the set.

Directing

We invite directors to pitch to direct each year. Traditionally they research and suggest a list of plays which interest them. Out of these, we choose five to perform each year. Theatre 62 welcomes new ideas and new directors. Why not start by shadowing one of our directors? You would be very welcome.

Wardrobe

Theatre 62’s wardrobe has hundreds of costumes for all types of plays from historic, wartime to modern. We have a wardrobe team and would be keen for new members to join us.

Lighting and sound

Theatre 62 has up-to-the minute technical wizardry which enhances all of our productions. Any ā€œtechiesā€ who would like to join the team would find a very high standard of kit and like-minded souls who can bring a world of marvels onto our stage through the wonders of technology.  Likewise, we’d like to hear from any beginners who would like to tap in to their creative juices.
